Stimulants are a class of drugs that are categorized together due the similarities of their effects. They are typically referred to as “uppers” due to the fact that they are known to temporarily increase energy, attention, alertness, and moods. They are considered the opposite of Depressants, which are known as “downers.”
Many drugs fall under the Stimulant category, but the main known ones are Cocaine, Ecstasy, and Methamphetamine. These drugs are considered illegal, however there are some legal stimulants, including Adderall and Ritalin, which are both prescription ADHD medications.
Withdrawal from these drugs can be dangerous if going it alone- each drug has its own list of withdrawal symptoms and dependent on how long you’ve been addicted, withdrawal could be extremely difficult. That is why it is extremely important to go through withdrawal and recovery with a supportive team- like the team here at CASA Recovery.
