Michael is a queer therapist, specializing in Trauma therapy, Sex therapy and SGM Affirmative therapy. He has advanced training in EMDR, Brainspotting, Bio and Neurofeedback, as well as Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Additionally, Michael is trained through the International Trauma Training Institute as a Certified Family Trauma Professional (CFTP), Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist – Individual (CCTS-I), and Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist – Sex Trafficking & Sex Industry Exploitation (CCTS-S). 

 

Michael has worked extensively with SGM individuals and is very knowledgeable about how the DSM-5 Diagnostic pathologies affect SGM individuals differently than their heterosexual counterparts. He has worked specifically with the Trans community and is an advocate for Trans related healthcare.

 

Michael’s therapeutic approach incorporates both neuroscience and clinical practice in understanding both human behavior and development. He utilizes Bowen Family Systems Theory as well as Trauma resolution techniques in order to help promote change within his clients. Michael believes in order to differentiate from one’s family of origin, one must be aware of the issues and patterns that hinder their differentiation. In his sessions, he focuses on helping his client’s confront individual and familial trauma(s), emotional dysfunction, and reactive patterns. 

 

Michael received his Master’s of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from The Chicago School of Professional Psychology. He received his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Neuropsychology from Grand Canyon University. In addition to being a part of Casa Recovery’s clinical team, Michael is also an Adjunct Professor.
